Congratulations!

We want to congratulate all of the teams that competed in our Battle of the Books competition.  They did an amazing job.  We will be holding an awards ceremony on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at 9:30am in the gym.  We will also be hosting a battle between our top 2 teams against our faculty team.  After seeing how great the students did in the battles, our faculty team has their work cut out for them!

A special Thanks to all the parent volunteers who helped moderate our battles, we couldn't have done it without you!

It's Time to Rhyme

This month we will be learning about Poetry.  We are encouraging our library students to explore the poetry genre and try their hand at writing their own limericks or other types of poetry.  As it is Valentine's Day this month, writing a special poem is a great way to celebrate the holiday!

Folktales

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break!  This month in the library we will be learning about Folktales and other Tall Tales.  There are some great stories like Paul Bunyon, Pecos Bill, The Lion and the Mouse, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Anansi and the Talking Melon, Seven Blind Mice, One Grain of Rice and many others.  Please take time this month to check out one of these great stories!

The Giving Tree

This month our focus has been on the Historical Fiction genre, but we took a week away from that to read the book "the Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein.  We created our own giving tree full of leaves with service on them.  The students were able to pick a service (leaf) off of the tree and get into the spirit of giving.  I have been amazed at their willingness to serve and how excited they have been about helping out.

Battle of the Books Tracking

Battle of the Books teams for 3rd-6th grades will be formed by the end of the week.  Wednesday, November 12th is the last day you can sign up.  Participating students have been given a tracking punch card to keep track of the books they read.  For every book they read they can come to the library and get their card punched and earn a treat.  For every 5 books they read they can earn a prize from our prize basket.  If they read all 20 books from the list, they can earn a book from our book basket.  Please help your child keep track of the books they are reading.  Students in grades K-2 that are participating have also received a punch card.  They will not be competing on teams but will still be tracking their progress and earning rewards.  Thanks for making this an awesome experience for them!

Genre of the Month

This month the library is beginning our genre of the month challenge.  Each month the students will be learning about a different genre of book.  This month we are highlighting Fantasy books.  Students  in 3rd-6th grade have been challenged to read a fantasy book this month!
